Rumors has been around since 2008, and in that time we’ve consulted on a wide range of projects. We’ve prepared publishers for coming changes in digital book distribution; shown institutions how to make their archives open and engaging; and helped businesses use design to lay the groundwork for long-term growth. Our work reflects its context, serves its audience, and conveys its ideas through structure, behavior, and form.
We begin each project by asking questions and conducting research. Sometimes these questions are hard, and sometimes our research turns up unanticipated results, but that’s good! We’re hired to provide an outside perspective, and careful planning lets us make thoughtful decisions based on the resources and needs at hand.
This investigation is the foundation for our design process, which prioritizes intuition and improvisation. Loose design ideas are revised, discussed, and eventually honed into comprehensive visual systems. These systems bridge identity, print, and interactive experiences — and since we’re as concerned with the way things behave as with how they look, we code what we design ourselves.
We’ve taught, lectured, and given workshops nationwide; been included in design magazines, festivals, and exhibitions internationally; and been awarded by organizations like the AIGA, Print, and the Society of Publication Designers.
